Well, I guess you could call this a family colab. ^^
This photo was taken by my mother in Mexico. She brought it home and I was simply stunned by it. I did a good deal of work on it, cleaning up overexposure, working with the colors and the ugly, ugly texture on the archway. I showed her the final and asked if I could upload it, she said I had better because she wanted to order a print of it.
looks gorgeous....hurrah for mexico! i like the clarity of this pic, how the colours contrast.
i tried to do you a bit of a critique there, but unfortunately it backfired by becoming a compliment.
yay for miserable failure!
I love the path, how the tint is blue, and the texture of it as well. It leads me into the background both through the way the tile snakes through the image and into the pool, and the colour. It ties into the ocean and the sky as well. Plus, it gives it a more serene affect, very calming. I feel like I am on vacation myself.
I love the repetitive elements in this. I texture of the of the palms, and how they slope down. They connect with one another, and lead to the umbrellas which continue down the shore. The water connects, both in the pool and in the ocean. Same thing with the tiles I mentioned earlier. Wonderful design element.
I think it was a good choice to get rid of the texture on the archway. The contrast of the black, and it really brings the rest of the shot to life. Plus it adds to that calming feeling, and it ties in so well with the floors shadow. I need to go to Mexico, but I am still scared of the water. My Dad has gone there on business a few times, he got food poisoning
Another interesting aspect is the organic and more man made shapes. The more organic are in the background and are lighter, whereas the architecture are darker. If this was a painting, I might read more into that, but I rather doubt that has any significance, but it is such an interesting aspect.
I wonder how bad that texture was, because in your process to cover it up it looks like you've almost blended the whole arch together, losing the perfect roundness at the top. It's just that it makes the arch looks a bit oddly shaped and combined with the bases on different planes, the whole arch looks rather 2-dimensional. Was it always that dark?
But what a lovely sky! No wonder you wanted to upload this, the background is gorgeous! The statues, greenery, mountains and ocean are all things that add interesting detail to the picture and liven things up. I agree with what pseudomask said about the blue lacing and interwining the elements of the photo together and I just have to mention that your text is spot on.
Wow.. what a beautiful place. ^^ I love how the archway is dark and black, but then all of a sudden, a burst of joy and tropical color comes from the opening. Truly nice. Great work to both your mom and yourself!
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

Lovely job on the cleanup, and the initial pick too. This would make a lovely print indeed.

I'd be interested in seeing the original too.
