Stan the Man

Stan Lee got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today. Conveniently, I found out early enough to attend (what a morning surprise that spawned last minute plans!), was close enough to attend and even got to borrow a killer camera to get some good shots.

Stan got the first star of 2011 and just had his birthday last week, hell of a belated gift! He was so full of energy and wit, his speech was both funny and touching. He apologized for not being able to thank the people who gave him the star, since he does not know the name of the person who dug the hole or poured the cement. He thanked his industry people and he thanked all of us who came, as he said he would have felt like an idiot standing there talking if no one had come.

Todd McFarlane thanked Stan for all the heroes he had created, how many stars he has given the world, and said it was an honor that we were able to give one star to him in return. Stan thanked McFarlane and Gill Champion, who spoke about Stan, and said that he learned something about them today... they were excellent judges of character!

Ever the rascal, Stan hopped up on stage in the middle of his introduction, and when told they weren't ready for him yet, shouted back "But I hate waiting!" and scolded McFarlane saying "I hate people who speak better than I do!"

Here we see Stan receiving his certificate for his star. It is a great day for comic fans! I have a ton more shots, but this is my favorite. Even with the sun messing it up.
